About Maryvale
Maryvale improves the quality of life for youth and families
experiencing mental health distress in Windsor/Essex and Chatham/Kent.
Who We Are
Founded in 1929, Maryvale is a fully accredited Children’s Mental Health treatment centre in Windsor, Ontario, where adolescents experiencing very serious emotional, psychological and mental distress can receive therapy and assistance. Our clinical experts provide multi-disciplinary treatment, from psychologists, child psychiatrists, social workers, child and youth workers, special education teachers, and nurse practitioners. In addition, a Neuro Psychologist, a Speech and Language Therapist, and a Family Physician are part of the Maryvale team.
Maryvale primarily serves young people (aged 13 to 17) and their families. Children and teens of all ages up to 17 years are served in the Acute Care Mental Health Hospital program. These children and teens may be experiencing a range of mental health issues such as debilitating anxiety and depression, suicidal ideations and attempts, complex high risk issues of disabilities and psychological problems, developmental disabilities combined with mental health concerns, etc.
Maryvale is primarily funded by the Ontario Ministries of Children and Youth Services and Health, the Ministry of Mental health and Addictions, and through fundraising efforts.
It is Maryvale’s passion to promote the recognition and understanding that one’s inner mental and emotional world is of utmost importance and determines more than any other factor the quality of one’s current life and future life.

Our Goals
1) Signficantly improve the emotional, social, and spiritual development of children and teens and to enhance the functioning of their families.
2) Provide evidenced-based service available in the community to each teen and family by initiating and promoting an active, practical collaboration with other community organizations and individuals for the benefit of the teen and family.
3) Enhance the understanding of Children's Mental Health issues by participating in consultation, public education, University and College student placement, training and research and prevention activities.
4) Be involved in individual advocacy and systems advocacy.
5) Support the planning and development of an improved network of coordinated community services.
History of Maryvale
Above is the original and first building on the Maryvale campus. It served as both the Convent for the founding Sisters of The Good Shepherd as well as the living space for the girls who came here in the 1940’s and 50’s. It is now used for administrative offices.
In 1929, five Sisters of the Roman Catholic Order of the Good Shepherd established a home in Windsor for young women and girls in social and spiritual need. Maryvale was the first residential service for girls in the province of Ontario.
In 1984, the admission criteria was broadened and Maryvale opened its first programs for boys.
In December 1993, a program responding to children and teens in crisis began, initiated by the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918).
In early 1997, Leone Residence moved to the Maryvale campus providing additional residential treatment for adolescent girls between the ages of 11 and 17 years.
In May 2001, the Child and Adolescent Acute Mental Health Hospital Bed Program began. This program operates in the building known as the Rotary Home for Children and Youth.
In 2013 Maryvale’s services moved primarily to day and after school programs, support programs for students moving between Maryvale and community schools, counselling services, access to child psychiatrists and Positive Parenting Programs.
